Is it better to look for oilfield jobs in Texas or elsewhere?

Texas has the largest concentration of oilfield employers in the country, largely because of the Permian Basin and Eagle Ford regions, so statistically it offers the most opportunities — but "better" depends on your own situation, not just job volume. Other states (Oklahoma, New Mexico, North Dakota, and others with active production) have real oilfield hiring too, sometimes with less competition for entry-level roles precisely because they get less search volume and attention than Texas. Relocation costs, housing availability, and whether you have any existing connections in a given region are practical factors that matter as much as raw job count. Rather than treating this as "Texas vs. everywhere else," it's usually more useful to pick a specific region you can realistically relocate to or commute within, then search that region specifically.
